The September 13, episode of The Dating Game was much like the other episodes. Like usual, there was a lot of unsubtle and uncomfortable innuendo. At the end of the game, Bradshaw picked Bachelor Number One, who turned out to be a long-haired man in his mids named Rodney Alcala. He was paroled after less than three years, and by the time Bradshaw met him on The Dating Game , he had already murdered four women. But when Bradshaw went backstage with him, she said something changed. I didn’t want to see him again. Before the show, Alcala had unsettled at least one of the other contestants.

Each episode will tell the in-depth, fascinating and revelatory stories of a relatable cast ranging in sexuality, ethnicity, age, disability and background. Behind the provocative headline, at its heart are funny, adorable and sometimes awkward connections.

The show’s format is based on a Dutch dating show called Daten in het Donker meaning “Dating in the Dark”. Three men and three women are sequestered in separate wings of the house, unable to have any conversation or contact with the opposite sex unless in the dark room. But in at least one instance, a Dating Game contestant ended up when his father found him in the darkroom at the age of 13, fully developed.
